TEHACHAPI / EASTERN KERN COUNTY — October 22, 2026. A new state highway construction calendar includes westbound State Route 58 work near the Broome Road overcrossing on Wednesday and Thursday, October 28–29. Motorists following the Tehachapi-to-Mojave corridor should distinguish this repair site from other projects along SR-58.

What Caltrans announced for Broome Road

Crews plan to repair damaged guardrail and close the westbound outside lane and shoulder from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Drivers may experience brief delays. The agency does not describe this as a full freeway closure, and it has not published a detour in the October 22 bulletin.

The location is identified by the Broome Road overcrossing, not by an unspecified Tehachapi city street. A traveler heading west may encounter work-zone traffic well before reaching other destinations on the route, so it is useful to identify the interchange rather than assume all SR-58 restrictions occur in one town.

Three different SR-58 restrictions next week

Broome Road is only one of the district’s planned activities. Caltrans also lists eastbound guardrail repair near Randsburg Cutoff Road on Friday, October 30, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and bridge maintenance near Cameron Canyon Road/Business Route 58 from Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.. Directions, days and locations differ, making a blanket ‘SR-58 closed’ headline misleading.

What drivers should check

Review the latest Caltrans QuickMap or 1-800-GAS-ROAD service before making an extended trip, and allow room for workers in the shoulder. Rain or other weather can shift the planned schedule. This advisory was issued on October 22 for future work, not a confirmation that any restriction is currently in force.

Official source and conditions

This report is based on the Caltrans District 9 weekly traffic advisory published October 22, 2026, for work planned October 26–30. A listed construction schedule is not proof that a road is presently closed. Caltrans warns work may change because of weather, incidents or equipment. For travel immediately before departure, consult Caltrans QuickMap and posted work-zone signs. Motorists should slow down and move over for crews where safe.
