TEHACHAPI, Kern County — November 5, 2026. Tehachapi Unified School District’s Measure D school facilities bond is trailing in the county’s first complete election-night tabulation. The unofficial return has 4,170 No votes (53.45%) and 3,632 Yes (46.55%). The ballot label states that approval requires 55% Yes; the early Yes share is below that threshold.
What a 55% requirement changes
A school facilities bond is not necessarily decided by a simple majority. Measure D’s county ballot specifically lists a 55% passage requirement. Its reported Yes share of 46.55% is 8.45 percentage points below the required level at this reporting time. Legal passage or rejection depends on the final county canvass, not a projection from an election-night table.
What voters are deciding
The measure concerns bond financing for school facilities. Bond authorization would have financing and local property-tax implications defined by the exact ballot language, issuance documents and oversight requirements. The county election table alone does not establish specific classroom projects, property-tax rates or construction timelines, so this article does not invent them.
Separate voter population
The school district’s 45 initially reporting precincts are not the same as incorporated Tehachapi city government or the Bear Valley Community Services District. Residents in different communities may share a school district without all voting in the same city election. The 7,802 valid Measure D selections cannot be interpreted as city council turnout.
